WIRE series 2025 oil/canvas (36x48” & 48x36”)

This continuing Wire Series with oil paint on canvas, is the culmination of years of life painting in the landscape and drawing in front of the human figure. Now solely from photo reference, the images are a direct result of painting the industrial landscape of the Northeast, and the fluidity of gestural figure drawing. In combination with a limited palette and stream of consciousness sketching, I have transformed the overhead wires into a series of paintings that examine the interstices of light and dark and the shifting perspective of the connections within. Inspired by the seemingly endless constitutive quality of lines and capturing subconscious characterizations. Compositionally and subjectively, they reference a unique blend of what we recognize and what we might not recognize, and what might be contained streaming within the wires.
This combination of what is to be expected as an artist, and what transforms with the slight of hand reveals a hybrid of design and flagrant subconscious mishap of imagery. The longer the viewer looks, the more the bold line will engage and ensnare the inquisitive eye.
